We were able to view conference the last two weeks.  Because of the time difference between NZ and the USA, the wards delay conference weekend until the week after General Conference.  The senior missionaries watched the two Saturday sessions two weeks ago, and last Sunday we viewed the Sunday sessions.  One of my favorite talks was from a native Australian, Elder Terrence Vinson.  He spoke of the importance of being committed----to be as they say in Australia, "fair dinkum" about living the gospel.  People are fair dinkum when they are what they say they are.  I looked up the meaning and origin of the phrase "fair dinkum".  It means a fair day's work.  The work dinkum was coined on the Australian gold fields.  It comes from one of the Chinese dialects widely spoken at the diggings.  Din Kum means "true gold".  For me, it means total committment. Support from the Lord

We are taught that in some cases, in spite of our prayers, the Lord does not take away our burdens but rather increases our capacity to deal with them.  We experienced that very blessing this past two weeks.  We just completed the inherently difficult process of sending missionaries completing their missions home, receiving new missionaries and the accompanying transfers, along with 4 zone conferences the following week.  The process was complicated with the change of assignments discussed previously, the loss a seasoned senior office couple, the Taylors, who are going home, a very large group of new missionaries and a large transfer.  Additionally, we had our missionary with cancer constantly on our minds and in our prayers.  Numerous visits to the hospital along with helping to accommodate his mom, who came from England to be with him.  At one point there was a serious discussion and difficult decision as to whether to have him start chemotherapy her...
